The Experience
We first came across Spookfontein wines whilst watching rugby at a pub in central Hermanus. We ordered a bottle of their Merlot, and it was so good that it resulted in us visiting the wine estate the following day.
Spoookfontein's range of white wines include a Sauvignon Blanc as well as a Chardonnay, which are really reasonably priced at only R98.00 and R195.00 per bottle respectively.
We then went on to taste their heavenly Merlot Rosé, which is ridiculously inexpensive at a mere R49.00 a bottle.
The reds included their 2016 Pinot Noir, 2015 Merlot, 2016 Cabernet Franc and the 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon.
THEN we tasted their pièce de résistance, the 2017 Spookfontein Phantom, which was absolutely amazing, and resulted in us leaving with quite a few cases!
Our waitress was really friendly and knowledgeable and the atmostphere was really chilled and unrushed.
We spent a great afternoon at Spookfontein, and as a food and wine blogger in Cape Town, I would highly recommend a visit to Spookfontein next time you visit Hermanus.
