Under Oaks Farm, Northern Paarl

This little hidden gem is situated in Northern Paarl, close to Rhebokskloof, and is well worth visiting.

In Cape Town, we like to make the most of a lovely sunny day in the middle of winter, so this was a perfect opportunity to add to my food and wine blog in Cape Town.

The Britz family have owned Under Oaks (previously the farm "Honswyk") since 2004.

Amongst a selection of exquisite wines to taste, you can treat your taste buds at their Pizzeria, relax in one of eight beautiful en-suite cottages, all the while enjoying the to die for scenery. The cottages are newly built and 4* graded. The guesthouse was voted “The Best Private Luxury Accommodation in the Western Cape” by the Luxury Travel Guide 2017.

Under Oaks is very chilled, totally unpretentious and the wines are really excellent.

The Pizzeria

We visited the Pizzeria for lunch, as we know that the pizzas are always really good.

The guests that were with me all opted for pizza, however I decided to try the salmon salad - which was absolutely divine. When I scanned the menu I saw that they offered Belgium waffles as one of their desserts. I have been craving a good waffle for the longest time, and believe me - it didn't disappoint! I could have quite easily had another one.

We enjoyed a few bottles of the Under Oaks Sauvignon Blanc with our lazy lunch.

The Experience

Having visited Under Oaks on many occasions, we decided to go there to make the most of a lovely sunny day in an otherwise cold and wintery Cape Town. There was snow on the caps of the mountains in the distance which was really beautiful to look at.

The staff at Underoaks are extremely attentive, friendly and helpful, and we didn't have to wait long for our food and beverages to be served.

One of my favourite wines at Under Oaks is "The Secret", a red blend which REALLY is a secret (apparently the only people that know what the blend is are the winemakers). I am really looking forward to their new release of The Secret at the end of the year.
If you are at the wine tasting area, ask for Lucha. She is so lovely and friendly and exceptionally knowledgeable about wine, and she will make your wine tasting experience a memorable one.

Even though there aren't a lot of tables at the Pizzeria, what I love about this place is the space. It offers a huge grass area and a great kids play area, so it is very family friendly and relaxed. Although it is spacious,, there is still an intimate, family feel about this wine estate.

Tammy, the cutest ginger cat clearly rules the roost and wanders around saying hello to everyone.
