Asara Wine Estate and Hotel

Polkadraai Road, Stellenbosch, Cape Town

Asara Wine Estate and Hotel is one of THOSE places that I could spend an entire day just taking in the majestic views and snapping photo's.  It is an absolutely stunning venue.  The views are beyond breathtaking (as you can see from the pictures I'm posting of the views.)

Our visit to Asara was a quick "pop in" to show my sister how beautiful it is there.  We decided to do some wine tasting whilst we were there.

There is so much to do at Asara - from staying in their hotel (which offers 41 rooms and suites spanning 3 wings), to fine dining at Raphael's, to casual contemporary dining at the Sansibar Bistro.   At the Sansibar you will find the most impressive selection of gin - literally an entire wall of it - this must be what gin heaven is like!

I literally could not get enough of this breathtaking view, and the wines were super good too :)

THE WINE TASTING and BISTRO
As it was a lovely sunny day, we decided to sit outside on the terrace to enjoy the wine tasting.

Asara offers three tasting options:
The Speciality Range Tasting (which is 3 wines at a cost of R60.00)
The Vineyard Collection Tasting (where you get to taste 5 wines for R75.00),
and The Terroir Range Tasting (which comprises 3 tastings for R65.00)

I choose the Terroir Range as I was particularly interested in tasting their Viognier (which is one of my absolute favorite varietals).  It definitely didn't disappoint, and neither did the Passione Pinotage.  At R250.00 a bottle for the Viognier and R350.00 for the Pinotage, it was well worth taking a few bottles of each home with me to add to my wine collection. The Bell Tower (Bordeaux Blend) is also definitely worth a mention.

We popped in at the Sansibar Bistro for a pizza to share and a bottle of one of my go-to wines:  the White Cab.  This is such an easy drinking wine made with 100% cab sav grapes.  White Cab is also a really affordable every day drinking wine at a mere R125.00 a bottle.

My experience at Asara was an amazing one, and I can return time and time again and never tire of the exquisite views and great service.  In conclusion, I totally enjoyed reviewing it for my food and wine blog in Cape Town, and have recommended it to many people who have asked me which wine farm to visit next.
