ON THE MENU
We started our lunch with a bottle of Steenberg Sparkling Sauvignon Blanc and the tastiest amuse bouche. This comprised of a beetroot tartare, edamame, roasted hazelnut, will rocket, balsamic syrup and parmesan shavings. Amuse bouche is literally translated as a "mouth amuser". It is typically a little bite that packs big and interesting flavors, and believe me, this one did not disappoint!
The First Course:
For the first course I opted for the ash crusted chevin. This was a compressed pear galette, with mint, tender greens, toasted pumpkin seeds, lemon verbena and chili vinaigrette. It was paired beautifully by the 2019 Steenberg Sauvignon Blanc.
The Main Course:
My main was the beef fillet cooked to absolute perfection with broccolini, mustard mousseline, potato fondant, mushroom chutney, cognac and black pepper jus. This was expertly paired with the Steenberg Syrah.
The Dessert:
It was difficult to choose just one dessert from the mouthwatering list. I chose the warm chocolate and strawberry fondant, with strawberry salsa, strawberry coulis, basil cream, chocolate dentelle and popping candy. This oh so delicious dessert was served with Steenberg Natural Sweet 2017.
As if it couldn't get any better, we ended the meal with a cappuccino and homemade chocolate truffles with roasted hazelnut ganache. The perfect ending to the most amazing taste experience.
THE EXPERIENCE
I enjoyed every sip and mouthful, and loved reviewing Tryn for my food and wine blog in Cape Town.
