The Wine Tasting

My sister and I decided to "pop" in to Vrede en Lust for some wine tasting.  I really enjoy so many of their wonderful wines, however she lives in Johannesburg, therefore is not as fortunate as I am to have so many great wine estates on my doorstep, so I wanted her to experience Vrede en Lust for herself.

I was particularly keen to try their Viognier, as this varietal has become one of my firm favourites.  I had tasted (and bought) an excellent Viognier earlier at another estate in Stellenbosch, which was absolutely superb.  Vrede en Lust however did not disappoint with theirs, it was THAT good.

We ordered their cheese and charcuterie platter, (pictured here) which was even more delicious than it looks on the picture.

I have previously tasted and thoroughly enjoyed quite a few of their Artisan Range wines. Top of my list was their Casey's Ridge Syrah, (only 17 barrels made) as well as the Blanc Fumé, which like heaven in every sip.  This was the best white blend I have ever had!

We then tasted the Marguerite Chardonnay, which was world class.  Before I could tell Ryan (who hosted the tasting with us) that I don't really enjoy Chenin Blanc, he had already poured it for the next tasting.  All I can say is "wow!" - I can now proudly say that for the first time my wine collection includes a 2018 double platinum winning Kogelberg Chenin Blanc.

The Experience

Needless to say, we left this Estate with a bottle of every wine we tasted (which were those pictured and a few more)
I always enjoy visiting Vrede en Lust, and this time was no exception.
In conclusion, I would highly recommend you visit for lunch, or a tasting and cheese and charcuterie platter.  I really enjoyed reviewing Vrede en Lust for my food and wine blog after my umpteenth visit.
